Matius Shanboone is a composer, conductor, and lecturer at the University of Pelita Harapan Conservatory of Music. His compositions have won many international awards and have been performed in countries like Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. 

Biography

Drawing from a rich tapestry of influences, Shanboone’s compositions seamlessly blend contemporary Western composition techniques with the profound ethos of Javanese music and philosophy. His works transcend boundaries, captivating audiences with their evocative fusion of modernity, tradition, and innovation. 

He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in composition from the University of Pelita Harapan with Otto Sidharta and Prof. Bernd Asmus. Subsequently, he pursued his Master’s degree at the Lübeck Academy of Music in Germany under the guidance of Prof. Dieter Mack. He later completed his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham in the UK under supervision by Prof. Michael Zev Gordon and Prof. Scott Wilson 

In addition to composing, he also conducts orchestras and choirs, writes songs, arranges church music, and is deeply committed to mentoring young musicians and fostering creativity in music.
